11 Promoting Podcasts and Working Together-02.png You just nailed your first podcast episode. Sounds awesome, and you are amazing. OK, maybe you aren't feeling that epic, but you are very proud of your creativity and you want to share it with the world. What is your next step?If you are about to say post it everywhere, you are kind of correct. Yes, you need to promote it, but hopefully you have promoted some prior to actually creating a podcast. The fact that you have the creativity to develop and produce a podcast is awesome, but promoting it comes way before releasing it.

Do you have a network with other podcasters? Do you have a presence on social networks? Do you have friends that want to listen to your stuff? If you had even a mild yes to one of those questions then we are in the right direction. I have made the mistake of putting my links all over the place when I first started and figured people would find them and it would grow all by itself. I couldn't have been more wrong. My podcasts didn't go anywhere because I didn't build any bridges. It wasn't that my content was awful or that I wasn't worthy of attention. I was doing it wrong.

Podcasts are about building relationships. Take that in for a minute. Right now you are thinking I am talking about building a relationship with your audience members, and I am, but I am talking about the bigger scope of building a relationship with other podcasters too. This can be the hard part. Clearly, we can all agree that there are many very well established podcasters out there and some probably feel like they are beyond chatting it up with new people just entering the audio world. They forget where they come from sometimes, and perhaps it's a defensive measure. I have run in to it as well when putting stuff out there only to get rubbed by the "seasoned" guy because I was encroaching on their territory.

We can do better working together rather than building walls. In fact, it's one of my biggest goals of building the AM Podcast Network. I want to promote awesome people and awesome podcasts. Why not? I will build my audience without promoting someone else's podcast, but I want that relationship because it builds the foundation stronger for everyone. I want to give a shoutout to someone on their 3rd episode on my Google+ page and let them know they are doing fantastic. That's something we all need to do. We need to go beyond ourselves, and not look for that "Just finished episode XX, check it out", and get that relationship built so people WANT to listen to what you are doing.

You can promote your podcast all you want, and people won't care in the world until you offer them something they want, BEFORE asking them to do something for you like listening to you jibber jabber along for 30-60 minutes. For the last few weeks I have been liking, following, calling people, chatting, and anything else I can to start building bridges. I want people to know me before they get to my podcast. If you don't know where to start after reading this, let me help you. Register in the podcast forum so we can start talking. I am ready to do great things with you if you are ready to build your half of the bridge.

    About Author

My name is Adam and I am the creator of the AM Podcast Network. This is a hobby, but it is starting to become a passion. It started with my own website and is morphing into a network so I can bring other podcasters on board and really expand our base out. You do things better as a group, and I plan on doing big things. If you are interested in joining, don't be shy and come on in!
